There are only 7 species of sea turtles: the Leatherback, loggerhead, olive ridley, hawksbill, flatback, green, and Kemp’s ridley. 2. All 7 sea turtle species are considered threatened or endangered. They are poached for their eggs, meat, skin, and shell. 3. Sea turtles return to the same beach they were born on to lay their own eggs. 4. The temperature at which the eggs incubate determines the gender of the hatchling. Warmer nests produce female sea turtles. 5. Sea turtles usually lay 100-125 eggs per nest and it takes around 60 days for the hatchlings to emerge from the sand 6. Only one out of 1000 hatchlings survive to adulthood. 7. Green sea turtles are the only ones that become herbivores as adults. They are called "green" because they have greenish fat from eating algae, seagrass, and seaweed. 8. The other sea turtle species have meat in their diet. They like to eat other animals like crabs, shrimps, lobsters, sea urchins, and jellyfishes. 9. Sea turtles cannot retract their flippers and head into their shells. they protect themselves by swimming away fast or using their hard shell against predators. 10.
