Why did you choose Sarangani Bay?

I’ve done a few diving in the southern part of the Philippines, and after spending a week in Sarangani Bay, I knew I just had to come back. The diving is fantastic. You can enjoy wall dives with unpredictable currents, do some night diving, visit wrecks and go critter hunting if you’re into macro.

Similar to my other groups trips, this place is a relatively unknown dive destination which means, fewer divers in the area. You can enjoy the underwater reefscapes at peace and have a slice of paradise all to yourself.

Why did you choose Lemlunay Resort and South Point Divers?

There are only a few dive resorts in this area. Lemlunay and South Point Divers came highly recommended. My experience with them did not disappoint. They took care of everything and I felt very safe diving with them the entire time. I just had to show up and have a good time.

This is in Mindanao, is it safe?

Mindanao has grappled with historical security challenges in specific areas due to past conflicts and insurgent activities, it’s crucial to emphasize that Sarangani Bay itself stands apart as a safe and serene diving haven.

During my visit, I noticed several check points that serve as a visible deterrent to unauthorized activities. I also got to interact with several foreigners who were traveling not just in Sarangani but also across Mindanao. This is as a testament to the destination’s appeal and safety reputation.

All I can say is, don’t believe everything that the media says.

What dive certification level should I be at to join your trip?

Due to the nature of the dives, I recommend that you are an Advanced Open Water diver to join me on this trip. I’ve included 2 night dives for this trip. And some dive sites can go down to more than 18 meters.

If you are an Open Water Diver you are still welcome to join, but you will only be allowed to dive within the limits of your certification. You can also consider taking additional courses while on this trip.

How fit do I need to be to join this trip?

The resort is located by a cliff, so you should be able to climb up and down a few steps (around 20+ steps) to get to the boat or to do the house reef dive. After any boat dive, you should be able to climb a boat ladder to get back.

The good thing about diving with South Point Divers is the crew will assist you every step of the way. They will even bring your dive gear down and up the stairs so you don’t have to hull the heavy gear with you.

After the dive, you can remove your gear in the water and pass your gear to the crew, so you can climb back into the boat with ease.

Do I have to fly in from Manila?

You can take a flight to General Santos from Cebu. However you need to be at the airport at the designated meet up time. If you will be arriving at a later or earlier time, we can also arrange for a separate van transport for an additional fee.

I am a single traveler/ diver, can I still join the trip?

Absolutely! One of the reasons why I organized this trip is for divers who want to dive in the Philippines but don’t have anybody to go with. I know how it feels to go to a strange new place alone, that’s why I’m here to help.
If you’re a solo traveler, I’ll room you with another solo traveler of the same gender. You can also pay extra to get your own room, but this is subject to availability.
Joining my trip would be a great way to connect with other divers. Hopefully, by the end of this trip, you’ll have more friends to dive with in the future!

Will you be guiding the dives?

Local dive guides who know the area well will be leading the dives. We will be split up into different dive groups according to certification and experience. There will be a maximum of 4 divers to 1 dive guide in each group.

Can I rent dive gear?

Yes, it is possible to rent gear. Please provide your requirements and we will confirm with the resort if it is available. Full dive gear rental (BCD, regulator, wetsuit, fins, mask) at Php 1000 (about USD18.20) per day or Php 400 (about USD7.30) per dive. Dive computer rental is Php350 (about USD6.30) per dive. Dive torch rental is Php250 (about USD4.50) per dive.

Is Nitrox available?–

Yes, Nitrox is available for Php 250 (about USD4.50) per tank.

Do I need to get dive insurance?

While it’s a personal choice, I strongly recommend obtaining dive insurance for your peace of mind. Our remote diving location and multiple daily dives make it a wise precaution. In case of an emergency your insurance provider should be able to assist you on getting the help you need. You can explore coverage options from providers like DiveAssure or Divers Alert Network (DAN). Just be sure to thoroughly understand the policy details before making a decision.

What is the fish port tour in the itinerary?

General Santos is well known for its tuna industry in the Philippines. The tour is done early in the morning so you can see how the tuna is brought in by fishermen and sold in the market. As a scuba diver, I found this to be an interesting excursion as you can interact with the local fishermen and vendors to learn more about the tuna industry.
